Although it is hard to believe, as a
child Don Rickles was painfully shy. He gradually adapted his fathers approach of
kidding people about themselves and making them laugh. His trademark insult style evolved
as he worked in nightclubs after his discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946. Eventually, as
a result of his biting humor, he garnered the ironic nickname, "Mr. Warmth."
One of the 20th
centurys most famous funny-men, he has appeared in top showrooms from Atlantic City
to Las Vegas for over 35 years. He has been highly visible in television and motion
pictures as well. Along with his appearance in Universal Pictures "Casino"
(with Robert DeNiro and Sharon Stone) Rickles will add his roles in MGMs "Dirty
Work" and two animated projects, the direct to video sequel "Toy Story" and
Warner Brothers "Quest For Camelot," to his list of cinematic
accomplishments.
After a
successful first appearance on "The Tonight Show" in 1965, Rickles became a
staple on television with guest appearances on "The Dean Martin Show", as well
as with his own "The Don Rickles Show," "C.P.O. Sharkey," "Daddy
Dearest," and "Foul Ups, Bleeps and Blunders" which he co-hosted with Steve
Lawrence. His television specials include "A Couple of Dons" with Don Adams (of
Get Smart fame), "Rickles," and "Don Rickles On The Loose" on
Showtime. |
